• How does Samsung trade-in work, and is it worth it?

  You declare the device you are replacing, Samsung quotes a value, and on phones that value comes off the basket as an instant discount; televisions run a separate scheme paid as cashback. Two things decide it: condition, described as a buyer would see it, because the quote is made against what you declared; and timing, since values are most generous right after a new flagship launches. Trade-in is tied to the storefront you buy from, so a device handed over in Riyadh belongs to the Saudi programme.

• Is the Samsung app cheaper than the website?

  Often, on a first order: the Samsung Shop app carries a first-purchase benefit the desktop site does not, worth several hundred riyals on a large order. • Do Samsung instalments reduce the price?

  No, a plan moves the price, it does not reduce it. Ask two questions before choosing one: whether it is genuinely at zero cost or carries a bank fee, a processing charge or a rate, and whether your card is charged the full amount upfront and converted by your bank or charged monthly from the start, which behave very differently on a card with a tight limit. • Is it cheaper to buy Samsung in the UAE and bring it to Saudi Arabia?

  Sometimes the number is lower, but check the three things that cross a border badly first: whether the warranty is honoured where you live, whether the plug and voltage match, and whether the trade-in or instalment plan attached to the offer is available to a buyer with your address and card. A saving that leaves you carrying a television to a service centre in another country is not a saving.
